An Annual Tradition
On Sunday, February 10, 2008, art aficionados and their canine companions enjoyed a fabulous brunch surrounded by exquisite examples of canine art and collectibles at the annual Barkfest at Bonhams. All proceeds of the Barkfest at Bonhams benefit the AKC Humane Fund, Inc., a 501c3 charity that unites a broad spectrum of animal lovers in promoting the joy and value of responsible and productive pet ownership through education, outreach and grant-making.
The Barkfest at Bonhams is a unique opportunity to preview the finest dog art on the market before it is offered for sale at auction at the Bonhams Dog Sale on Tuesday, February 12. On exhibit at the Barkfest were works of art featuring many popular breeds, including Fox Terriers, Parson Russell Terriers, Foxhounds, Irish Wolf Hounds, Irish Setters, various Spaniels, Maltese, Pomeranians and Dachshunds. The catalogue also features many giants of the dog art canon, including Maud Earl, Reuben Ward Binks, Samuel John Carter, Conradyn Cunaeus and Simon Simonsen. Also on view was a portion of one of the largest single-owner collections of dog collars in private hands. Four centuries of dog collars, from 16th century German icon collars to early 20th century leather and brass models were featured at the Barkfest.
Thanks to all who joined us at the Barkfest in support of the AKC Humane Fund. For more information about the auction, visit www.bonhams.com/dogs. To learn more about the AKC Humane Fund, Inc., contact Daphna Straus at dxs@akc.org.
