Judging Requirements and Approval Process

Effective September 1, 2003 new Agility Judges will be granted Provisional status.

As we approach the ninth year of AKC Agility competition, we find it necessary to make some adjustments in the process of licensing new judging applicants. In the past, new judges were allowed to judge Novice through Excellent.

The new policy for Agility Judging applicants will be as follows:

Provisional Status:

• Once all requirements are met to become an AKC Agility Judge, approval for Novice Standard, Novice Jumpers with Weaves, Open Standard and Open Jumpers with Weaves will be granted.

For approval to judge Excellent level status:

• A minimum of two successful supervisions are required.
• The ability to design courses and submit them on time must be demonstrated.

Full approval for all levels requires:

• A minimum of two successful supervisions at the Excellent level.

Agility Judging Requirements and Approval Process

The following requirements must be met in order to be eligible to become an AKC Agility Judge:

1. A minimum of 5 years experience competing in AKC agility.

2. Earned an AKC AX or AXP title and an AXJ or AJP title.

3. Worked as a timer, scribe, and course builder at a Licensed AKC Agility Trial.

4. Worked at the Trial Secretary/Scoring table at a Licensed AKC Agility Trial.

5. Attend an AKC Agility Judges Seminar and pass the required tests given.

6. Be in good standing with the American Kennel Club and must be 21 years of age or older.

To apply to become a judge, you must:

1. Attend and complete the following requirements at an AKC Agility 3-day Judges' Seminar

• Pass written exams
• Course Analysis-Two part test
• Design all levels of courses, Novice through Excellent Std/JWW Successfully
• Practical Judging
